Born in Georgetown in 1950, Grace Nichols is one of the UK's most celebrated Caribbean poets. Her poetry blends Caribbean rhythms, Guyanese folklore, and explorations of historical memory. She won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize in 1983, was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2007, and received the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2021.
