Born in Georgetown in 1949, John Agard is one of the most versatile Caribbean literary voices in the UK. A poet, playwright, and children's author with over 50 published works, he has blended Caribbean oral traditions with English literary forms for five decades. He was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2012 and the BookTrust Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.
