Jan Carew (1920–2012) was a novelist, playwright, poet, BBC broadcaster, and actor who appeared alongside Laurence Olivier. He served as Director of Culture under Cheddi Jagan and later advised President Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana. He taught at Princeton, Rutgers, and Northwestern, where he became Emeritus Professor of African American Studies.
