“Lokono Arawak art visionary”
George Simon (1947–2020) was a Lokono Arawak artist and archaeologist widely regarded as one of the leading Guyanese artists of his generation. He founded the Lokono Artists Group, championing indigenous visual art traditions and contemporary expression. In 1998, he received the Golden Arrow of Achievement for exceptional contributions to the arts and community work among the Amerindian peoples of Guyana.
