“Four-time Olympian — Guyana's athletics queen”
Born in Georgetown, Aliann Pompey is Guyana's greatest track and field athlete. A four-time Olympian (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012), she won gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the 400 metres and bronze at the 2003 Pan American Games. She holds the South American indoor record and now directs Track and Field at St. John's University, while running the Aliann Pompey Invitational in Georgetown.
