“To Sir, with Love — teacher, diplomat, legend”
E.R. Braithwaite (1912–2016) served as an RAF pilot in World War II, earned an MA in physics from Cambridge, and worked as a schoolteacher despite racial discrimination in 1950s Britain. His autobiography "To Sir, with Love" (1959) was adapted into the iconic 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier. He later served as Guyana's Ambassador to the United Nations and Venezuela. He lived to 104.
