John Slingshot Drepaul made history in 2005 as the first non-Trinidadian and first Guyanese artist to win the Miami Soca Monarch, edging out a predominantly Trinidadian lineup. Together with his wife Ingrid, he has written, composed, and arranged over 500 songs spanning calypso, soca, reggae, chutney, and their unique fusion Chulhaa.
