“Guyana's folk-rock fusion pioneer”
Born in Georgetown on Christmas Eve 1991, Gavin Mendonca is a self-taught musician who fuses Guyanese folk traditions with punk rock energy in a genre he calls Creole Rock. He is the programme director of the Rupununi Music & Arts Festival and has toured internationally to Dubai, Ireland, China, Colombia, and Brazil. His Folk It Up project with Chucky has preserved dozens of traditional Guyanese songs that had not been recorded in decades.
